Chair Chick

Down the Garden Path...

Chair chick is on the prowl again and she has unearthed one of her favorite profiles that's been given a bright new finish! First envisioned by Sir Edwin Lutyens, the shapely back and arms of this bench have become ubiquitous in the manicured English garden. Gloster has created a queenly white version, called the Marlborough, for their new Estate collection. The resilient coating, which is achieved with multiple layers of marine-grade paint over kiln-dried mahogany timber, means the pieces in the collection are low-maintenance mainstays in the outdoors or beautifully finished icons indoors. Hard to believe Lutyens designed this stunning bench in the 1890's because it's as classically at home in our modern-day settings as it was in the dew-drenched allées of his time.

Tis the Season

As August scurries out of sight, Chair Chick would like to celebrate one of the things for which the month is known here in South Florida: lobster season. This year, the official start date of the crustacean-craving string of months was August 6. With a flourish, we bring you the Lobster chair by Verikon, designed by Lund & Paamann. Given the organic shape of the shell, which is made of laminated wood with a walnut veneer or leather upholstery, you’ll be as happy to curve into the Lobster for a respite as your watery counterpart is to have the protection of its own undulant shell.

The seat is padded with Pantera foam and covered in leather, and the swivel base is made of chrome-plated steel. It’s available in all black or black and wood tones. A full list of retailers is available on the company’s web site. Where this lobster has its advantages over its sea-sidling counterpart is that it isn’t declared off limits in March when the season comes to a close!
