A Little Birdie Told Us...
During the HD Boutique Show in Miami Beach, I finally met Kristian Grant of Koji Collection, an uber-talented guy who's take on furniture is fun and flirty. I've been writing about his whimsical furniture since last year's show and what I saw this year was equally exciting. One of my favorites is Birdie, which was inspired by the humming bird. "Koji Collection's aim is to capture the harmony between exquisite artistry and precision craftsmanship," says Grant. The fluidity of form in this piece--its swooping lines and gentle curves--is the thing that does mimic the balletic qualities of the undulating humming bird. The indoor version of the limited edition chair is made of woven rattan with leather, suede or cowhide upholstery. Grant introduced outdoor-worthy versions of many of his products this year. The outdoor version of Birdie (shown) is made of a synthetic vine-like weave upholstered in Sunbrella fabric. The roomy chair with its nose up in the air is in Koji's Deco Drive collection. To see some other fun products I spotted at the show, visit my Examiner page and the Design Commotion blog. Check out my guest-post on Design-Calendar (the girl from Ipanema is there!).
